Getting locked out of the house is a terrible thing to happen, but it’s not the end of the world. There are so many things that you can do in order to remedy the situation that panicking should never even be on the list of reactions that you should have. With that said, it is quite normal to have people panic when they get locked out of the house, so let’s just let that one slide. Once you’re done hyperventilating, how about you refer to the following basic options at your immediate disposal?
- Try to find an open window
- Call someone else who has a key
- Call for a locksmith
The first thing that you should do when you get locked out of your own house is to find a window that you may have left open or unlatched. You’d be surprised how many times people forget to close windows in those corners that they rarely ever pay attention to. This could be your ticket inside.
If the open window thing doesn’t work out for you, calling someone else who has a key to your home is the next course of action. If you are living alone, you might have left the key with a neighbour that you trust, a relative that you’re close with, or even a co-worker who comes over often. Granted, this option is not ideal since no one who doesn’t live in your home should have a key to it, but it is an option.
Finally, if none of those things work, you can always call a locksmith. A lot of them are quite close to your home regardless of where you live and many of them also have an online presence. Using the services of a professional is better than breaking down the door.
